Cyanine 5 is an intensely bright far-red fluorescent dye that is structurally identical to Cy5. Known for its exceptionally high extinction coefficient and strong signal generation, it remains one of the most fundamental and widely used fluorophores in life sciences.
Because it emits in the far-red spectrum, Cyanine 5 helps researchers completely avoid the natural background autofluorescence of cells and tissues. It is perfect for a variety of imaging applications, including confocal microscopy, flow cytometry (FACS), DNA microarrays, and highly multiplexed labeling panels.
The attached maleimide makes it a thiol-reactive dye for labeling of protein SH groups, and it can be used to attach Cyanine 5 fluorophore to proteins and peptides containing cysteine residues, as well as to other thiolated molecules (such as thiol-containing oligonucleotides).
