Genomicist Markéta Tomková wins the first Czexpats in Science Award for eminent Czech scientists abroad

The Czexpats in Science Award, established by the eponymous association in cooperation with DIANA Biotechnologies, aims to support and publicly recognise the work and achievements of Czech scientists abroad. The selection criteria emphasize not only scientific excellence, but also societal overlap and a clear vision of contribution to the future development of science and society. The winner, Markéta Tomková, was selected by the expert jury from 37 highly qualified candidates whose life stories, career paths and scientific achievements confirm the high level of Czech science abroad.

Markéta Tomková's research in the field of genomics and DNA sequencing contributes to a better understanding of cancer and offers new possibilities for its prevention and treatment. In her team, Markéta Tomková regularly hosts students and postdoctoral fellows from the Czech Republic and is actively involved in the popularization of science. Thanks to the support of DIANA Biotechnologies, the laureate received a financial prize and a unique glass sculpture made by Czech designers Klára Janypková and Tomáš Kučera. Thank you to all candidates for their participation and congratulations to Marketa Tomková on her well-deserved award. We hope that the Czexpats in Science Award will continue to inspire all Czech scientists abroad and strengthen their ties with home.
